-
- This is a military gray version of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet.
- This model is based on the original Blue Angels Hornet that came with
- FSFS, but has been completely repainted. It features an improved flight
- model by Chuck Dome that provides much better handling and
- stability. This package also includes an improved flight model for the
- Blue Angel.
-
-
- To use the planes included in this package:
-
- 1. You must have a copy of Flight Simulator Flight Shop (FSFS)
- installed into your Microsoft Flight Simulator version 5.0 or 5.1
- program. FSFS is a commercially available program created and
- published by BAO. It is required to use this plane.
-
- 2. Copy the files:
-
- HORNET01.AIR
- ANGEL.AIR
-
- into your PILOTS directory.
-
- 3. Copy the files:
-
- HORNET01.0AF
- HORNET01.1AF
- HORNET01.2AF
- HORNET01.3AF
-
- into your TEXTURE directory.
-
- 4. You are ready to go flying!
-
- You will want to delete the original FSFS version of the Blue Angel
- Hornet. This plane is found in your SIM directory and is called
- ANGEL.AIR. You will need to delete this file from outside Flight
- Simulator. Do not do anything with the ANGEL texture files. The new
- flight model uses the same textures.
-
- The source files for the new Hornet are located in a file called
- SOURCE~1.ZIP. If you wish to modify the visual model of the Hornet,
- unzip the contents of the SOURCE~1.ZIP file into a new directory and
- then select this directory from the Aircraft Factory Planning and
- Logistics window. You will need to uncrate the plane before you can
- load the assembly. The parts have not been altered in any way from
- the original Blue Angel version, but all the textures are new. The
- placement of the textures is the same with the exception of the
- fuselage component that is directly behind the cockpit. The texture
- was placed closer to its actual scale, while in the Blue Angel version it
- was stretched WAY out.
-
- Special thanks to Chuck Dome for coming up with a much better flight
- model. I knew it could be done! Chuck's CompuServe ID# is 72723,734.

- Design notes:
-
- This Hornet model was actually finished a long time ago. I don't know
- exactly when, but if you look at the date on the textures, they are from
- some time around the beginning of 1994. The Hornet was constructed
- before glue templates were an option, so I tried very hard to solve all
- my bleedthrough problems through other means. The only glue
- template in the model was actually placed by Laemming, as a means
- of showing me this new wonderful feature (I just could NOT get that
- front gear right without it!). There are several bleedthrough problems
- that still exist, however, which could probably be solved with a little
- more glue, but so far I have not made the attempt. The worst bleed is
- visible when viewing the plane from directly behind. The pilot's seat
- sticks through just about everything!
-
- I did begin to add a few other features to this model which the Blue
- Angel version did not have, but my free time has been running very
- short lately so I have not pursued it. I planned to add a lower external
- fuel tank and some sidewinder missiles. If you look in the AFA you will
- find some parts for these extra features located in the Spares group. I
- would be thrilled if someone picked up where I left off!
-
- You may have noticed in the manual for FSFS that I gave credit to the
- McDonnell Douglas Corp. for my reference materials. What that
- means is that my sister, who works for McDonnell Douglas, provided
- me with a bunch of photos and nice reference materials. Thanks, sis!
-
- Oh, yes, I made a mistake. Right before submitting my final version of
- the Angel to BAO for inclusion in the FSFS package, I fiddled around
- with the footprint and ended up deleting one of the points. I forgot that
- the footprint requires 4 points. ooops! Because of this, the plane
- doesnÆt taxi straight. This new version fixes this. If you plan to make
- any changes to the original Angel, be sure to move the footprint to the
- Spares group so that the good footprint in this new flight model wonÆt
- be overwritten.
-
- Happy Flying!
